{"id":23229,"date":"2020-05-01T19:11:21","date_gmt":"2020-05-01T13:41:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.syscreations.ca\/?p=23229"},"modified":"2020-12-18T13:04:19","modified_gmt":"2020-12-18T13:04:19","slug":"how-to-set-up-wifi-long-term-care-homes-remotely","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.syscreations.ca\/blog\/how-to-set-up-wifi-long-term-care-homes-remotely\/","title":{"rendered":"How to set up Wi-Fi or set up a network in Ontario long-term care homes during coronavirus outbreak, remotely?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you recently had a discussion about Wi-Fi, I bet it wasn\u2019t a positive one!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wi-Fi or network infrastructure is a hot topic in Ontario long-term care homes as it helps residents and healthcare professionals combat the coronavirus outbreak.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the <\/span><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/sudbury\/sudbury-long-term-care-homes-staying-connected-covid-19-1.5548220\">CBC report<\/a><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>,<\/strong> <\/span>after nearly two months with no visitors, the use of the iPads with high-speed Internet for video calls and other ways of staying connected with loved ones from a distance have skyrocketed in St. Joseph Villa.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, uninterrupted Internet or Wi-Fi access is the major source of frustration for many LTC homes during coronavirus outbreak.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\"><b>Why is uninterrupted Internet crucial for LTC homes during coronavirus outbreak?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As more and more Ontario LTC homes adopt technology, their dependency on robust network infrastructure for uninterrupted Internet access is not expected to take a nosedive, especially when remote care and remote connection to family members become routine for residents due to COVID-19.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li><b>To improve care delivery<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Due to rising concern over COVID-19, physicians now do not prefer to visit LTC homes. Instead, they provide virtual care to seniors using virtual care tools.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But to make sure the rapid care delivery using virtual care tools, LTC homes should be equipped with continuous Internet access as virtual care tools do not work offline.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li><b>To increase efficiencies<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Healthcare workers and other staff working in LTC homes manage most of their work from their laptops, desktops and mobile devices.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Without a proper Internet connection, LTC home staff should downgrade to offline paper-based work which engages staff more in unnecessary tasks.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li><b>To enhance the mental health of residents<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because of the visit ban, residents\u2019 loved ones cannot visit them. Due to loneliness, many residents are undergoing mental health issues.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To enhance the mental health of residents, LTC homes can schedule virtual visits between residents and their family members. But without a fast and uninterrupted Wi-Fi setup, virtual visits remain fantasy!<\/span><\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: left;\"><b>How to set up Wi-Fi or set up a network in Ontario long-term care homes during coronavirus outbreak, remotely?<\/b><\/h1>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Due to the unsettled situation caused by COVID-19, my team of network engineers is working with a different approach but with the same enthusiasm to set up Wi-Fi or network infrastructure in Ontario LTC homes.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\"><b>Step 1: Networking hardware assessment<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li><b>Non-COVID-19 approach<\/b><b>:<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Decide the time and visit the long-term care home to assess which networking hardware is required and the right placement of each networking hardware to actualize uniform Internet speed throughout the facility.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li><b>Pro remote approach:<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Without visiting the LTC home and causing trouble to LTC staff &amp; residents, study the floorplan to assess which network hardware is required and the right placement of each networking hardware.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prepare the extensive network infrastructure plan which includes the number &amp; type of networking hardware, connection method, and right placement<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\"><b>Step 2: <\/b><b>Networking hardware acquisition<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br>Future-proofing network infrastructure with smart network monitoring <\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li><b>Non-COVID-19 approach<\/b><b>:<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ask LTC homes to purchase the networking devices according to the network infrastructure plan and store it safely in the facility.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li><b>Pro remote approach:<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Order the networking devices such as <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Firewall, Switches, Controllers, and Wi-Fi Access Points<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">through a distribution network and receive them at the workplace.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\"><b>Step 3: Networking hardware configuration<\/b><b><\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li><b>Non-COVID-19 approach<\/b><b>:<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Visit LTC home with a team of network engineers and configure networking devices while causing trouble to staff &amp; residents, using their resources, and affecting their regular operations.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li><b>Pro remote approach:<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use own resources, configure networking devices at the workplace, test it and ship pre-configured devices to LTC home.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\"><b>Step 4: Networking hardware deployment<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li><b>Non-COVID-19 approach<\/b><b>:<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Halt all existing online senior care tasks and deploy the networking hardware, interfering residents, staff and their privacy.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li><b>Pro remote approach:<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Help LTC home\u2019s IT team to deploy the pre-configured networking hardware remotely by using a groundbreaking technology &#8211; <\/span><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.syscreations.ca\/free-ar-based-remote-assistance-tool-in-canada\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AR-based Remote Assistance Technology<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><b>Future-proofing network infrastructure with smart network monitoring<\/b><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is not so rare to experience errors in network infrastructure.
