The health ministry asks you to apply up to 6 months prior to its expiry date.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, there is some <em>\u2018hidden\u2019<\/em> waiting time that isn\u2019t there on the surface.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For instance, in Ontario, you cannot apply for a health card (OHIP) as soon as you land in Ontario.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color:#7b68ee\" class=\"has-inline-color\">You have to wait 3 months from the time you arrive in Ontario.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you apply for the OHIP card, you have to be physically present in Ontario for 153 days of the first 183 days after the day you apply for OHIP.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2><strong>How much Canada is spending on healthcare?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color:#7b68ee\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Canada is spending over 11% of its GDP on healthcare. In other words, it is equivalent to more than $6000 per person!
